Position : Director, Mechanical Engineering
Reporting to : Chief Technology Officer

The Director of Mechanical Engineer will lead the mechanical engineering team in all aspects of the tracker development, including planning, designing, testing, certification and documentation of the tracker.  In this position, you will use your experience to lead decisions, solve problems, develop and execute design objectives, communicate cross functionally, and drive the team strategically so new editions of the tracker are delivered per commitments.

This position will require travel to engineering development centers and field/customer/construction sites.

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Envision, inspire, and develop an industry leading tracker for solar deployments
  2. Serve as a lead to help others learn and contribute while maintaining a positive team atmosphere
  3. Customer facing skills are important – to get on customer calls, explain concepts, address questions and get buy in
  4. Should have delivered products to the field
  5. All development should follow a strict development process with measurable metrics
  6. Tracker needs to have very high reliability (up time) when it is delivered
  7. Documentation is a big part of the role; each step of the design process should be documented and stored in a central system
  8. Interfacing with key certifying organizations and supporting them with needed technical data is a key part of the role
  9. Interfacing with manufacturing partners and ensuring that the tracker can be productized and produced at scale is vital
  10. Ensure safe practices are used to build prototypes and learn from them
  11. Willing to listen to inputs from the team and others including customers, and then including the good ones into the product
  12. Above all, this person should be technically sound at heart, with problem-solving skills that are timely and creative

Eligibility

Educational Qualification & Experience

  1. BS (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering
  2. Solar Industry tracker experience is a must
  3. Must have developed and had experience in designing mechanical components of a tracker, assemble, analyze them for wind and snow loads, and perform all the required simulations (FEA)
  4. Minimum 15 years of building and working with development teams in a leading company
  5. A team player with strong interpersonal, influencing and leadership skills
  6. Creative, self-starter and independent, with strong people management skills
  7. Ability to cope with multiple complex situations and emergent priorities daily
  8. Exceptional communication skills to keep a global distributed engineering team motivated and focused
  9. Experience working with manufacturing partners, 3rd party certification organizations, 3rd party test houses is be plus

Working Conditions

1. Position based in the USA
2. Travel will be 50% to engineering sites, customer sites and field installations
